The second day of Euro parliament, commission 1 started debating on the impunity of war crimes in Ukraine. The Russian army has been deemed to have committed thousands of war crimes, and they have not been sanctioned at all! It is therefore all the more important that this topic is discussed in our committee.

The legislative act was this time written and presented by Raphael Glucksman, a member of the S&D political party. In his legislative act, he asks Russia to stop any and all violence against civilians and to stop military operations in Ukraine. He also urges Ukraine to become a member of the ICC, or the International Criminal Court, so as to facilitate the pressing of charges against Russia. Furthermore, he asks the EU to provide funds to collect evidence of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Russia, as well as funds to repair constructions harmed in the war. Finally, he asks that the mechanisms against impunity be revised and improved upon.

This second day started off mildly, with not quite as much debate as the previous one, as everyone seemed to mostly agree on all the amendments. After lunch though, the debate started getting heated, as some of the participants have relations with people from Ukraine. They came off strongly and provided some much-needed insight on the situation there and how it is for the citizens.

After much debate, the commission voted and passed the revised legislative act.
